Zojirushi Rice Cooker Review – Is it worth it?

Zojirushi Rice Cooker Review – Is it worth it?

Are you considering purchasing a Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker, but wondering if it is worth it? In this review I will discuss all the features of the Zojirushi and tell you my personal experience with owning one.

When it comes to rice cookers, the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy simply cannot be beat. I have owned many other cheaper models purchased from Wal-Mart that just didn’t cut it. The most common issue I had with them was they would leak out of the top while the rice was cooking. That has never happened with my Zojirushi. Also, other rice cookers just don’t measure up when it comes to keeping rice fresh on the warm setting. The rice tends to end up soggy or dried out. The Zojirushi, however, will keep rice perfect and fresh for up to 3 days (I have confirmed this). There is also a reheat menu option. Just level out the rice, add a tablespoon or so of water, and reheat. And BOOM! Perfect reheated rice.

So what is it that makes the Zojirushi so special? Neuro Fuzzy Logic technology. This technology allows the rice cooker to ‘think’ for itself and make temperature adjustments for different types of rice. All of this is done with the thermal sensor, a small round button at the bottom of the inner body of the cooker. The inner bowl’s weight rests on it and activates the sensor, monitoring the temperature and cook time.rice-in-a-zojirushi

What kind of rice can you cook in the Zojirushi? Any kind and every kind. It has a special setting for white (regular/sushi, softer or harder), mixed, porridge, sweet, semi-brown, brown, rinse-free and quick cooking. I have even made hibachi fried rice in this thing. (Get the recipe here)

Let’s look at some other features. This comes straight from Amazon.com.

Now let’s talk price. The current price of the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker on Amazon is around $158, so it falls somewhere in the middle. Some rice cookers go as high as $500 and the cheapies can be as low $40. For all the technology that the Neuro Fuzzy has, it is definitely the “more bang for your buck” purchase.
I have owned my Zojirushi for almost 2 years now and I use it all the time. It makes cooking rice so much easier and I never have to worry about the rice getting overcooked or under cooked. It is my favorite kitchen gadget I have and it has more than paid for itself.

Is the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker right for you? You can purchase one here. And as always, please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  • This rice cooker looks great. Everybody in my family love rice. This would be a great addition to our cook sets, and the price seems to be good for all the features that it has. I only have one question, is it easy to clean?

    • Yes! It is very easy to clean. The inner bowl and lid are removable and should be washed by hand. Use a damp cloth to wipe the outside of the cooker and inside under the inner bowl. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting.
